A fundamental part in the makeup of our GEM pages, are the individual layout sections that work together to form the page. While they should not be looked at as individual sections, they are the building blocks that serve in creating the design of a web page.

There are some examples of layouts shown below, and like our GEMPlated examples, they illustrate how these groupings of components can fit together to promote your message. You can then stack these layouts down your page in order of importance.

If you examine the bands of information as you look at a web page, the layouts in the page will become clear. A layout is a grouping of components when placed together, convey a single section of information on your page. The layout can contain a heading, some text, sometimes additional paragraphs or bullet points of information, an image/video, and sometimes a series of additional ‘cards’ of information.

In most cases, somewhere in the layout, there will be links out to further information. These are grouped components to ensure that a user can identify this layout of information should be read together as they are telling one story to the visitor.
